The Color of Winter

Buurrrrr!!....It's 30 degrees outside, life has been shrouded in fog and ice crystals. The sun for just a moment peeked through the gray clouds of winter yesterday. So like a moth to a flame (cliche I know) I gravitated to the window to feel it's warm amber rays. Something blurred past the window and it found rest in a nearby tree. I had a good idea what it was and the sunlight wouldn't last long! I ran to get the tripod, attached the zoom lens to my camera then quietly opened the front door just wide enough to take 10 pictures before the sun disappeared and the hummingbird flew off. It was worth the effort! God was reminding me of His splendor as always :)

  2. I know that 30 degrees is cold where you live...I wonder how that little hummingbird was keeping warm! The photos are fabulous!

Here it is -30*C, so wildlife and birds are really suffering in the sharpness of the cold. Looks like we won't be out of this for the rest of this week...

  5. Stephanie,Thank You for your wonderful encouragement. There is something very freeing about resting in that purpose that He prepared us for!

Thank You Joanne! I put out a feeder for the little guy. There are always one or two hummers that don't migrate. They are really tough little birds!
-3o That is insanely cold!! Maybe Reg and I will wait until it's warmer when we visit!!! lol

Matine, Thank You my friend.I am glad that the photographs stir emotion :) I would be delighted if you'd like to use the humming bird as a reference to paint. I now you'd paint the hummer beautifully! Hugs to you!

  6. That little hummgingbird should have migrated. Since it has not, it needs sustenance or it won't survive. There are actual hummingbird rescue people who would tell you what to do (just what you need, an extra responsibility).

  8. Hey Karen! Every year one or two humming birds stick around. According to a local Ornithologist this is normal and to put out a feeder for them....which I do. Ya just have to bring the feeder in overnight so it won't freeze. :)

Sara, Thank You so much!! I loved your blog and the cause! Put you on the blog list and I've passed the word on to other artists and photographers as well. Now, I can't decide which photo to submit!! :)

  9. Anni these are amazing! I love your photography. I've tried many times to turn a good photo into a painting but they don't often work out. I realize now that a great photo is best as a photo. Yours are truly great. They are so stunning.
